A Trip down memory lane...

The Horseshoe Motel (now the Luck Horseshoe Motel) in Port Austin, Michigan holds a special place in my heart. My Uncle Joe and Aunt Catherine owned the motel when I was growing up. For several years we could make an annual visit every summer to stay here, spend time with family, and do a little fishing with Uncle Joe.

The picture below was the house that my Uncle and Aunt lived in.

Looking toward their house, the sign along the highway and some cabins in the background. Some of the cabins are original and some have been built recently. The motel was originally built as a motor court motel where you park your car in a carport next to the your room.

This is the center court area of the motel. There is a lot of pleasant memories from staying here. I remember  we would have picnics in this area and bbq the fish we caught or other meat.

The two cabins to the right I believe have been built recently the but the ones in the background are originally and we stayed in these rooms many times.

Another look at the motel and center court area.

The motel is now owned by the same people who own a more modern hotel next door but have done a great job of keeping the Horseshoe in good condition.

It was so wonderful to be able to take a trip and see the motel again along with the rest of Port Austin and bring back memories of our wonderful stay there.

Unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to stay here on our more recent trip but we plan to in the future. The place looks great and is a wonderful getaway so if your in the area think about staying here. Here is a link to the website:

While many things have changed, at least this memory of my childhood still exist.
